Announcing Our 2019 Filmsupply Edit Fest Winners

Filmsupply Edit Fest - Best Movie Trailer - Polaris

It’s a wrap! We’ve officially finished Filmsupply Edit Fest and we couldn’t be more excited about the results. Over the course of 30 days, veteran editors and up-and-comers continually impress the judges with their ability to tell a story with style and imagination.

Just knocking out an edit that quickly is difficult, so for everyone who participated—congratulations! We had more than 1,300 films submitted: 443 advertisements, 672 movie trailers, and 260 title sequences.

But, we know why you’re really here. It’s time to announce our winners. The judges’ panel had the tough job of selecting just three winners from hundreds of submissions. Ultimately, they chose three winners who really knocked their edits out of the park based on Concept, Rhythm, Emotion, and Sound. We totaled their scores and the highest took home the top prize in each category.

We also had you chime in and nominate your favorite submissions for the People’s Choice Award, which we’ll announce below as well. Without further ado, here are the winners of the 2019 Filmsupply Edit Fest:

Best Advertisement Award

Push the Limits by William Forslund

It’s all about the setup. Even if this ad didn’t have the incredible ending, it’d be a pretty great spec piece. But, by building the anticipation and playing off of our expectations for sports commercials, William was able to cue up the punchline perfectly. It’s funny, high-energy, and we think any agency would kill to have this concept in front of them.Runner Up | Atmosphere by Dustin Foster

Runner Up | Nekoman by Johan Snell

Honorable Mention | Out There by Filip Hostynek

Best Movie Trailer Award

Polaris by Dillon Droke

There’s a lot going on in this trailer and that’s definitely not a bad thing. Space travel alone has a lot of drama packed into it. But, when you throw in an ominous VO along with scenes of family drama and some seriously trippy moments, you’ve got the recipe for a movie that anyone would love to watch. Dillon’s pacing, intensity, and ability to spark some curiosity in his viewer ultimately won our judges’ panel over. Watch the VFX breakdown of Polaris here.Runner Up | Fair Verona by Kerrod Cooper

Runner Up | Marlow by Peter John Miller

Honorable Mention | The Prophet by Spencer Keller

Honorable Mention | Subsonic by Gabe Dipple

Best Title Sequence Award

Jonestown by Pete Ward

There’s more than a few cult documentaries being produced these days, but this title sequence by Pete Ward makes us wish there was one more. The Jonestown Massacre was one of the most horrific and unique events in recent history. By using an eerily catchy soundtrack, a historical VO from Jim Jones himself, and contrasting imagery of death and tropical beauty, this edit puts the viewer in a prime position to keep watching. Compositing in the bodies on that last shot really rounded out the concept.Runner Up | Polar Night by Nanna Påskesen

Runner Up | Arbiter by Patrick Poelchau

Honorable Mention | Statera by Ziyad Abahussin

People’s Choice Award

Love, Dance and Work by Giovanni Rossi

The people have spoken! This year’s winner of the People’s Choice award goes to this stirring ad from Giovanni Rossi.
