Meet the Winners of Filmsupply’s Edit Fest 2021

Boom. Just like that, another successful Edit Fest has come and gone. 2021’s competition was fierce; Calica’s music brought out the best in you. We’ve seen inventive and inspired edits over the last month.

We were wowed and surprised by so many of your artistic choices, story decisions, and technical moves. Kudos to all of you! We are so thankful to each and every one of you who took the time to craft an edit this year. The bar was raised, folks, and we’re proud to have been a part of it.

And, finally, please join us in thanking this year’s judges, an incredible “who’s who” of industry pros and creative powerhouses.

We asked you to cut a music video for up-and-coming indie artist Calica using footage shot by notable director Alex Cook. Over 1000 of you did, and we watched every single one of them. Our esteemed panel of industry judges selected the winners using a grading rubric to score for the following categories:

Storytelling: Does the edit connect emotionally? Is the storyline communicated effectively?
Rhythm: Does the pacing of the edit complement and enhance the story?
Creativity: Is the style of the edit unique? Was the story told in a compelling way?

And now, here we are. Without further ado, here are this year’s Edit Fest winners and a few comments from our judges.

Best Edit

Winner: Joe CK Jacob
“Beautifully done. The prologue is beautiful, setting up the idea of moving in and out of a dream state.”

Best Color

Winner: Leonardo Placucci Neto
“Bold and intentional choices, yet still sophisticated and not overdone. Good use of a spectrum of colors. Nice rich contrast.”

Best VFX

Winner: Sena Terefe
“I love the greyscale effect with the lead female character and watching her come to life with his touch. This is something that could look not so great if done poorly—but you nailed the effect.”

People’s Choice

Winner: The A Team | Mediamonks
